Karimnagar sources have stated that undertrail prisoner from Bavupet died at a government hospital in the town while undergoing treatment on Thursday night. According to sources K. Venkatesh was an accused in five theft cases in Gambiraopet. The police arrested him a month ago and produced him before the court on June 13.
Later he was then sent for remand where his health deteriorated and was admitted to the hospital on July 26. He died while undergoing treatment. Meanwhile Venkatesh's wife Renuka along with other family members staged a protest before the hospital on Friday alleging that Venkatesh succumbed to injuries due to police torture. She had been to Yellareddy police station several times asking about her husband's whereabouts but the police haven't shown him".
She
wailed "Her husband told her that the police have given him current shocks
to confess the crime," and on the other hand the police claimed the
death of Venkatesh was due to Jaundice. Furthermore Karimnagar RDO Raja Goud
ordered a probe into his death. He told the family members to wait for the
post-mortem report.
