Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao who was popularly called as NTR by the people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was an Indian actor, filmmaker, bankroller and Politician and had been the Chief Minister of AP for seven years and over three terms. During 1949 he made his debut entry in Tollywood industry and became highly popular when he had portrayed as Hindu deities especially Krishna and Rama which had received positive accolades from the mass crowd.
NTR had acted in 300 movies and had captured greater heights in Telugu
film industry. Moreover he was voted "Greatest Indian Actor of All
Time" in a CNN- IBN national poll conducted in 2013 on the
occasion of the Centenary of Indian Cinema. His acting had immensely stolen
hearts of his fans Al over. His powerful speech had received huge applause all
over.
After acting in movies he entered Politics during 1982 where he founded
Telugu Desam party and became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh between 1983
and 1995. Meanwhile in the latter half of his career, NTR became a screenwriter.
Despite having no formal training in script writing, he authored several
screenplays for his own movies as well as for other producers. He also
bankrolled many of his films as well as other actor's films through his film
production house National Art Theater Private Limited, Madras and Ramakrishna
Studios, Hyderabad.
Further during May 1943, at the age of 20, while still pursuing his
Intermediate, NTR married Basava Tarakam, the daughter of his maternal uncle
and the couple had eight sons and four daughters. He had won many awards in his
lifetime for his achievements in film industry and also in politics. On 18th
January 1996 he died due to heart attack at his residence in Hyderabad when he
was 72 years old. He was cremated and his ashes were immersed
at Srirangapatna by his second wife eight years later, in 2004.
