Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik was on Wednesday sent to judicial custody by a Delhi court till May 24 in connection with a case related to terror funding and separatist groups in the northern state. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Malik on April 10 in a case related to funding of terror activities, which the agency registered in May 2017 after violence erupted in the Kashmir Valley.

Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Syal also sought a reply from the defense counsel after the Tihar Jail authorities plead that Malik should be presented before the court through video conferencing citing security concerns. The Malik-led JKLF outfit was recently banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967.

Meanwhile, Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti led a protest against the court order and appealed to the central government to immediately release Malik and all other leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami. She used the example of BJP MP candidate Sadhvi Pragya who was set free despite several allegations against her.
