TIRUPATI: The newly-formed trust board of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which held its first meeting at the Annamaiah Bhavan in Tirumala on Monday, has resolved to find a permanent solution to the drinking water problems in the hill town in the coming days. TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy said the Balaji reservoir in Tirumala would be upgraded to mitigate the drinking water problems. “We have cleared all pending issues that had piled up in the last six months due to the absence of a full-fledged trust board.

All new members of the trust board have resolved to strive for the welfare of devotees,” he said. As reported by NEWS earlier, the board has trimmed the budgetary allocation for Lord Venkateswara temple at Amaravati from Rs 150 crore to Rs 36 crore. The board members also reviewed the budgetary allocations for beautification of Avilala tank and the Garuda Varadhi elevated expressway project. While the areas surrounding the Avilala tank would be transformed into a park, the board will consult the state government on the budgetary allocations for the Garuda Varadhi project.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of launching battery-operated vehicles in Tirumala to reduce pollution, besides resolving to form a sub-committee to review the concerns and problems of TTD’s contract and outsourced employees. Earlier, the new members of the trust board were sworn in during a special event inside the Tirumala temple. While three members were already sworn in, 20 members and six special invitees

were sworn in on Monday. The three ex-officio members — special chief secretary manmohan Singh, TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal and endowments commissioner M Padma — were the first to be administered the oath of office, followed by the members. The 17 members sworn in on the day include UV Ramanamurthy Raju, M Mallikarjuna Reddy, K Parthasaradhi, murali Krishna, N Srinivasan, J Rameswara Rao, Dr M Nichita, N Subba Rao, G Venkata bhaskar Rao, B parthasaradhi Reddy, D Damodar Rao, MS Siva Shankaran, Kumaraguru, C prasad Kumar, Mooramsetti Ramulu, P Prathap Reddy and K Siva Kumar. Interestingly, the special invitees — Tirupati legislator Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, AJ Sekhar, Rakesh Sinha, Kupendra Reddy, Dushmanta Kumar Das and Amol Kale — were not administered oath of office in the morning, but were sworn in after the board meeting in the afternoon.

Space crunch at the meeting venue also created problems. TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy was forced to address reporters on the key decisions taken at the board meet outside the meeting hall due to lack of space inside. Interestingly, only 29 of the 36 members attended Monday’s meeting, leaving officials to ponder how to accommodate everyone when there is full attendance of 36 members. Chaos prevailed for a while at the venue when followers of the new members tried to enter the venue.
