hyderabad: N Padmavathi Reddy, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy’s wife, is the Congress candidate from Huzurnagar Assembly constituency, which is scheduled to go for by-poll on October 21. Congress president sonia gandhi on Tuesday approved Padmavathi Reddy’s candidature. The AICC leadership invited Uttam Kumar Reddy to New delhi and announced Padmavathi’s name after consulting him.

Earlier, TPCC working president A revanth Reddy had announced that he was proposing kiran Reddy’s name for the seat. But Uttam’s word has prevailed with the party high command. Padmavathi had won the Kodad Assembly segment in the 2014 assembly elections but lost her sitting Kodad assembly seat to TRS’ Bollam Mallaiah Yadav in the December 2018 assembly polls with a narrow margin of 756 votes. She will take on TRS’ Sanampudi Saidi Reddy, who unsuccessfully contested against Congress’ Uttam Kumar Reddy in the 2018 assembly elections. Saidi Reddy had lost by a margin of 7,466 votes in the December 2018 election.

Bypoll is being held in Huzurnagar constituency as Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy had resigned as the legislator leaving the seat vacant, after winning the area Nalgonda parliamentary constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP too is likely to finalize its candidate soon. Though it will be a triangular contest between TRS, Congress and BJP candidates, the main fight is expected to be between TRS and Congress. The bypoll is crucial for both the Congress and the BJP to assert itself as the main opposition in Telangana. On the other hand, TRS wants to prove beyond doubt that people are endorsing the TRS rule, election after election, and that neither Congress nor BJP is opposition to it at all. AICC secretary SA sampath Kumar, addressing a media conference on Tuesday charged the ruling TRS with conspiring to win the Huzurnagar Assembly bye-election.

The TRS government does not have enough money to implement its welfare schemes. But with an eye on the bypoll, the ruling party is trying to ensure that 100% of farmers in Huzurnagar are extended the Rythu Bandhu benefit while the ryots in other parts of the state are still waiting for the benefit to reach them,” sampath said. Congress demanded the election authorities look into the ruling TRS proposal to launch the second phase of the sheep distribution program from Huzurnagar.
