Indian Origin American Abhijit Banerjee along with his wife, esther Duflo, and Michael Kremer will receive the 2019 Nobel Prize for Economics for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences made this announcement a little while ago.

Their awards will be given away on December 10th, which is the anniversary of Nobel's death in 1896 in Stockholm. They will also receive a 9 millionkronor ($918,000) cash award, a gold medal, and a diploma along with this glory. Banerjee was born in kolkata and completed his B.S and M.A degrees in Economics in the country. Later, he went on to obtain a Ph.D. in economics at Harvard in 1988.

He is currently the ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of technology which is the Best University across the globe. From the University, Banerjee came up with several reputed research works, including the one which got him the Nobel Prize. It is a matter of pride for all of us to see someone of Indian Origin receive the coveted Prize.
