Bombay high court quashed three orders passed by union government pertaining to phone tapping, the court said it violates the privacy, and can’t be allowed, it can be only allowed in extreme situations or in interest of  public safety.

     The Bombay high court ordered to destruct the intercepted conversations of various businessmen who are being probed for alleged involvement in different cases investigated by central bureau of investigation. The two judge bench clearly indicated the judgement of supreme court pertaining to phone tapping cases. The apex court said, tapping of phone conversations can be allowed only in extreme emergencies or interest of public safety.

    The petition was placed by mumbai businessman vinit Kumar after government passed three orders for tapping of phone conversations in 2009-2010, Kumar was booked and investigated by CBI in his alleged involvement of 10 lakh bribe to bank officials for credit related favour. 

   For safeguarding the right to privacy, the sc had directed there shall be a review committee, the high court found the orders were passed without making reference to review committee in given stipulated time frame of seven days.
