chennai sources stated that more than a month after the tamilnadu government passed an order making it mandatory for public examination for school students of class 5 and 8 from the current academic year, the government has issued guideline for conducting the examinations. Earlier on september 13, the principal secretary, school education department, issued a GO no. 164, as per amendment to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory education (RTE) Act 2009, which stated that there shall be a regular examination in class 5 and in class 8 at the end of every academic year.
Reportedly if a child fails in the examination, he shall be granted opportunity for re-examination within a period of two months from the date of declaration of results. Meanwhile the appropriate government may decide not to hold back a child in any class till the completion of elementary education. And no child shall be expelled from a school till the completion of elementary education.
Moreover the public exam for students of classes 5 and classes 8 would be implemented from the current academic year (2019-2020) in all the schools under the Department including government, government-aided, self-financed schools, matriculation schools following state curriculum, Adi Dravida and corporation schools. Perhaps following this, the primary education department issued guideline to the chief education officer in all the districts to take necessary steps to conduct the examinations and based on the results of the examinations, no students will be detained for the three years.
