In what can be termed as an embarrassing situation for YS jagan Mohan Reddy government, the GO renaming APJ Abdul Kalam Meritorious awards as ysr meritorious awards came under severe criticism from the opposition, netizens, and admirers of former President. Following protests from across, the chief minister directed the officials to withdraw the order.
He is reported to have reprimanded the officials for issuing the GO without his knowledge. The order was issued by education department secretary B Vijaya Kumar on Monday. The cm ordered for its reversal on tuesday morning. He also instructed the officials to name the merit awards after country's stalwarts like mahatma gandhi, Ambedkar, Jagjivan ram, Jyotirao Phule, etc.
The award is presented to meritorious Class 10 students on november 11, celebrated as National education Day on the eve of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad’s birth anniversary. The best performing students are awarded merit certificates, a memento and scholarships to meet higher education costs.
