Reportedly speculation was rife on monday morning regarding a possible merger between the tamil Manila congress and the bjp in tamilnadu, as TMC founder GK Vasan met prime minister narendra modi in New Delhi. Meanwhile the regional party, which was in alliance with the AIADMK for the lok sabha elections, according to sources, has been asked by the bjp to become part of its state unit.
Furthermore the possibility has been temporarily dismissed after GK Vasan denied any talks of merger. When speaking to the media after the 20 minute meeting in the capital, he said, "TMC will function independently. We will be victorious in the local body polls and after that win assembly seats. Talks of a merger with the bjp are false." Further he added, "TMC is well respected and liked in Tamilnadu. We will continue as we are and are going to take part in the local body polls in alliance with the AIADMK."
Moreover when asked for details on the discussion with the prime minister he said, "It was a courtesy visit. I explained to him about developmental issues in tamilnadu in the fields of education, agriculture, jobs and the tamil language and so he listened patiently and asked doubts as well. An AIADMK source stated "There is a rajya sabha position that is opening up and we believe that will be used to get them into the fold. If TMC merges with the bjp, they may get a seat".
