As per report passengers travelling by Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto express trains will now have to shell out more for food as the railway board has decided to increase the price of prepaid meals onboard these trains. Meanwhile the national transporter said this may lead to a hike in the fares of meals on these trains by 3 to 9 per cent. Furthermore as per the new order, in first class air conditioned coaches, one cup of tea will get dearer by Rs 6 more, while breakfast and dinner costs will go up by Rs 7 and Rs 15, respectively. The railways will now charge Rs 35 for a tea, Rs 140 for breakfast and Rs 245 for dinner.

Perhaps the railways have also increased the cost of tea, breakfast and dinner in AC two-tier, AC three-tier and AC chair car coaches, where tea will now cost Rs 20, breakfast Rs 105 and lunch and dinner Rs 185 per plate. Apparently the Ministry of Railways on november 14 released a circular announcing the hike in prices. The decision comes after keeping in mind the requests received from irctc and recommendations from the menu and tariff committee set up by the railway board. The revised tariffs will appear on the ticketing system after 15 days and will be applicable 120 days from the date the circular was issued, ie november 14. 



Moreover the national transporter further said that it has also decided to serve snacks with a regional flavor. Further as per reports the Railways will now also offer biriyani as part of the standard meal the vegetarian biriyani will be priced at Rs 80, egg biriyani at Rs 90 and chicken biriyani at Rs 110.
