Well, you must definitely know about the fearless woman Snehalata Reddy who devoted her entire life to Art and Activism. She is a fearless voice of dissent and she is known for her unconditional commitment to democratic values and non-violent resistance.

Snehalata Reddy (1932-1977) was born in andhra pradesh and she had a career as an actress, producer, and director. She is also a proficient Bharatanatyam dancer. She married a renowned Poet cum Mathematician Pattabhi Rama Reddy. Along with her husband, she became an active participant in the anti-emergency movement in India. As she was involved a lot in the movement, she got imprisoned in 1976 and her health deteriorated. She took her last breath at the age of 44 due to the bad conditions in the prison.

She is still remembered as one of the first martyrs of the 1975 emergency. Her relentless compassion and tranquil rebellion continue to be an inspiration for change-makers. Before an actress, she was a theater artist and she made some memorable plays such as A view From The Bridge and The house of Bernarda Alba. But she came in the public eye for her unconventional role in the award-winning kannada film Samskara which was released in 1970.

Even in the plays, she broke the stereotypes. She boldly essayed the role of a prostitute in Anantamurthy's 'Samskara' and in all her plays the feminist convictions were visible. Both herself and her husband were socialists and were influenced by the ideology of Dr. Rammanohar Lohia, the renowned socio-economic ideologue and freedom fighter. She took her last breath fighting for the cause which meant everything to her. She is an inspiration for social activists even at this period.
