Reportedly, bar owners in andhra pradesh have decided to move the high court against the state government’s decision to cancel the licenses of all existing bars in the state. Meanwhile the government had recently announced that new licenses would be issued from january 1, 2020 and the move followed the decision to shut down 40% of the bars in the state, as part of the government's plan to implement total prohibition in phases.

Furthermore bar owners who are calling the decision unfair are now getting ready to approach the high court contesting the cancellation of licenses. andhra pradesh State Wine Dealers’ Association President subba rao said that apart from the association, several individual bar owners are also mulling moving the HC. subba rao said “Many of us had renewed our licenses in 2017 for 5 years. These are valid up to june 30, 2022. We understand that the decision was taken as a part of the move towards prohibition, but many of us have already paid the yearly license fee up to june 30, 2020. We should at least be given time till then”.

Moreover subba rao said that while the association supports the move towards prohibition, sudden cancellation of licenses will adversely affect unprepared bar owners. He added “A government order has already been issued so there’s no point pleading with government officials or leaders. That’s why many of us have decided to go to court”.
