It has been exactly one year since a brutal gang grape that happened on the streets of Delhi in a moving bus that shocked the entire nation like never before. Indian corridors of power in Delhi came to a standstill with protestors even reaching the houses of PM and Sonia. A 23 year old Physiotherapy student who along with her friend mistakenly took a private bus to reach home proved costly for her with four men, including a juvenile brutally gang raping her such that her intestines were pulled out and she and along with her friend were dumped naked on Delhi roads and she passed away after a three week battle in hospital. After a huge outpour of public grief, the government finally moved to enact a tough act against rapists called Nirbhaya Act along with 1000 crores allocation by the name of Nirbhaya fund. But the question is whether our women are safe today than before? Though there has been some forward movement by the government but it is only considered as a drop in the ocean wherein the number of rapes has doubled after the incident and not a single day passes without news regarding gang rapes of five year old children. India is till unsafe for women?
