andhra pradesh Legislative assembly unanimously passed the Disha bill (named after the recent victim of Rape and murder of Veterinary doctor in Hyderabad) on Friday. Disha Bill mandates the disposal of cases of atrocities against women within 21 days and handing out the death penalty.

 

According to the new law proposed by the ap state government, the accused will get capital punishment if there is a piece of proper evidence to prove crime cases against women such as rape and the judgment would be announced in 21 days, conduct inquiry in 7 days and investigation in 14 days.

 

delhi Commission for women (DCW) Chief swati Maliwal on saturday wrote to prime minister narendra modi demanding immediate implementation of Disha Bill in the entire country. She expressed sadness over the "indifferent attitude" of the central government to date over the issue of women's safety. Maliwal, who has been on a hunger strike for over 10 days to demand capital punishment for rapists, said she will not end her fast till the Disha Bill is implemented in the entire country. If it happens, it will be a feather in the cap of the ap CM.
