As per report violent protests erupted near Jamia Millia Islamia in delhi and at the Aligarh Muslim university in uttar pradesh, while West bengal plunged deeper into chaos on sunday during the stir over the new citizenship law with incidents of arson and loot reported from the state and the northeast, acts which prime minister narendra modi alleged were being instigated by the "Congress and its friends". Meanwhile an uneasy calm prevailed in assam, epicentre of the agitation, as curfew was relaxed in guwahati and Dibrugarh for several hours following improvement in the situation but peaceful protests were held amid calls by the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) for resignation of its ministers.
Furthermore the party, which is part of the bjp led government in assam, decided it will move the supreme court against the amendments made in the Citizenship Act. Perhaps in the national capital, protesters torched four public buses and two police vehicles as they clashed with the police in New Friends' Colony near Jamia university during a demonstration against the amended Citizenship Act, leaving six cops and two firemen injured.
Moreover sources said that at least 31 students were brought to a nearby hospital after the violence and 11 of them were admitted. Apparently soon after the violence, Jamia Millia Islamia Chief Proctor Waseem ahmed khan claimed that the delhi police entered the campus forcibly without any permission and beat up staff members and students who were forced to leave the campus. Apparently banks and educational institutions remained shut with the North Eastern Hill university postponing all examinations to february 2020. Traffic was negligible on the roads during the relaxed hours of curfew and markets were shut for most parts of the day.
