Finance minister Nirmala Seetharaman paid homage to late Arun Jaitley. Sitharaman quotes Jaitley as saying "It will be an india where the Centre and states will work together unanimously towards harmony. With the GST neither the state nor the Cenyre will lose their sovereignty". Finance minister said "Our people should be gainfully employed, our businesses should be healthy; for all minorities, women and people from SCs and STs, this Budget aims to fulfill their aspirations. GST has facilitated formalization of the economy". 

 

Meanwhile Rs 85,000 crore has been allocated for empowerment of scheduled caste and Rs 53,700 crore for Scheduled Tribes. She said “For SC/OBC relief, I propose Rs 85,000 crore for FY21. For STs, Rs 53,700 crore will be provided. Allocation of Rs 9,500 crore for senior citizens for FY21". Furthermore Rs 8000 crore allocated over the next five years for quantum technology related computing.

 

Moreover she adds that women are a priority especially pregnant and lactating women. More than 6 lakh anganwadi workers are equipped to upload status of more than 10 crore households. Perhaps this scale is unprecedented. Overall, FM says there are imperatives to lower maternal mortality rates. FM proposes task-force on six months on this matter. Accordingly an allocation of Rs 35,600 crore for nutrition-related programmes in FY21. Further, Rs 28,600 crore will be allocated in FY21 by government for women-linked programs.
