mumbai sources stated that shiv sena mouthpiece Saamana has criticised the Union Budget presented by Finance minister nirmala sitharaman, saying it's merely words and there's nothing in it for Maharashtra. Meanwhile the editorial also compared the Budget to Sant Tukaram's poem 'Aamha Ghari Dhan Shabdancheech Ratne', suggesting that after this Budget, kind words are the only wealth we have left.

shiv sena has said "Finance minister spoke for a record-breaking 2 hour 41 minutes but it was only word play. We accept that economics is about numbers but it should also be supported by the government in terms of policy. Only making announcements is like cheating people". Further Saamana also took on the new tax regime for individual taxpayers and said the government is moving towards doing away with Section 80. shiv sena said "Middle class has invested in home loan EMIs, provident funds and insurance policies. If these exemptions are removed in future, it will impact the middle class".

Moreover the editorial questioned the modi government's policies of private investment in lic and IDBI. Reportedly "Are these companies being doled out to profit businessmen? What is the need for private investment? If the government doesn't come out clean on these issues there will be doubts in the minds of people," said the editorial. Sena also criticised bjp for focusing on gujarat and ignoring Maharashtra. "International investments have been invited to Gujarat. mumbai being the financial capital of the country is being ignored, why is this treatment being given to Mumbai?"
