Reportedly even before the corona virus, the country is going through economic slowdown and with the pandemic, the crisis has deepened further. In this view, prime minister narendra modi has taken a sensational decision to cut the salaries of his, cabinet ministers and also MPs. As per report there will be a 30 per cent drop in salaries of the above mentioned, said union minister prakash javadekar speaking to the media in New Delhi. Also the cut in salary will be applicable to ex-MPs who get money in the form of pensions.

 

Meanwhile the Centre took this decision by approving the Ordinance amending the salary, allowances and pension of Members of parliament Act, 1954. The salary cut is applicable for a period of one year i.e, till april 2021. Also the cabinet has temporarily suspended MPLAD Fund of MPs during 2020-21 and 2021-22 for managing health and adverse impact of outbreak of Corona. The consolidated amount of MPLAD Funds for 2 years is estimated to be Rs 7900 crores and this amount will go to Consolidated Fund of India.

 

On the other hand, President of india, Vice President and Governors have respective states have voluntarily come forward to take home less salary as social responsibility. Earlier it was telangana cm kcr who had announced nearly 75 percent deferment of salaries to ministers, MLAs, MLCs, IAS and IPS officers. Later ap, maharashtra and karnataka states have followed. Now PM modi has cut salaries of MPs all over the country.
