While the onset of a timely monsoon over kerala at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic is raising fresh fears, India's western coast is bracing for a tropical cyclonic storm, Cyclone Nisarga. The india Meteorological Department (IMD) on sunday announced that the weather system in arabian sea would intensify into trophical cyclone, which is named as 'Cyclone Nisarga'.  Accordingly cyclone is expected to make its landfall near Maharashtra-Gujarat coast on wednesday, june 3. Incidentally, Nisarga emerges as a rare phenomenon for mumbai and maharashtra coast. If IMD's Cyclone E-Atlas is anything to go by, this is the first ever time a weather system is intensifying into a cyclone and making its landfall near mumbai or on the maharashtra coast during the month of June.

Though not of the same intensity as Cyclone Amphan which had hit West bengal on May 20, Cyclone Nisarga can still inflict significant damage. As IMD warned on sunday, heavy rainfall is likely with a strong wind and rough sea conditions for fishermen and authorities alike in kerala, karnataka, maharashtra, goa and gujarat on tuesday and Wednesday. The coastal maharashtra area may particularly face gusty wind with speeds ranging between 90-100 kmph on Wednesday.

"The systems (reference to the weather conditions over the Arabian Sea) are under continuous surveillance and the state governments concerned are being informed regularly," the IMD said in a statement.Under this influence, Konkan and goa will also face heavy to very rainfall in some places from monday and continuing till june 3-4. The IMD, on the other hand, is also closely monitoring the movement of southwest monsoon which may hit Keral soon. Pre-monsoon showers were also received in kerala in the last two days."Conditions are very likely to become favourable from june 1st for the onset of southwest monsoon over kerala," director General of IMD, Murthunja Mohapatra, was quoted as saying by a section of the media.Meanwhile, mumbai and Maharasthra are preparing to face a cyclonic storm hitting their coasts for the first time in the month of June. A Hindustan Times report says that as per IMD's Cyclone E-Atlas, a repository that tracks tropical cyclones and weather depressions over the north indian Ocean since 1891, no weather system has turned into a cyclone and made landfall near mumbai or along the maharashtra coast during June.
