If there has been any other day which has evoked as much emotions in Telangana during last sixty years, it was September 17th. Prior to that, it was December 9th, 2009 which started gaining more attention.
One grouse against CM’s of United AP was that though there was huge demand to announce this day as a sort of Independence day officially it was never done. This upset people very much and such indifference is believed to have stoked separate state agitation.
The same day in September 1948, the people of Hyderabad state welcomed the takeover of the province by Indian army in operation polo against the Nizam and more or less this demand has been raised by everyone. BJP has the maximum chorus while MIM is not ok with it given the manner in which a Muslim head of state had to quit power.
However, this time it is not an easy task for KCR because his party has been vocally praising the Nizam for so called achievements he brought to Hyderabad but if he doesn’t make celebrations official, it means the situation is as best as United AP when sentiments were not respected. If he announces official celebrations, then again he may hurt his Muslim allies!
