World is celebrating International Womens Day on March 8th and Indian women who are viewed across the world as oppressed lot too are also getting ready to show their power. However women folk feel lot of controversy is generated surrounding Nirbhaya's documentary filmed by BBC and NDTV. This divided not all sections for and against banning of the documentary and even women community is speaking for and against the banning of the documentary. While BBC went ahead and aired the documentary filmed by Leslee Udwin who herself was a rape victim and will be airing once again on Womens Day tomorrow, Indian Government banned the film and served legal notices.

Even Bar Council of India served notices to defence lawyers for making insulting comments against women. Manan Kumar Mishra, BCI chairman said "We have issued the show cause notices to M L Sharma and A P Singh for their alleged remarks made in the (BBC) documentary,". However ML.Sharma, defence lawyer says “In our society, we never allow our girls to go out of the house after 6.30 or 7.30 or 8.30 in the evening with any unknown person. You are talking about man and woman as friends. Sorry, that doesn’t have any place in our society. We have the best culture. In our culture, there is no place for a woman,"This echoed the views of rape convict Mukesh Singh who said “Now when they rape, they won’t leave the girl like we did. They will kill her. Before, they would rape and say, ‘Leave her, she won’t tell anyone.’ Now when they rape, especially the criminal types, they will just kill the girl.”

While some say, this shows the pervert mind of a rapist and shows how resilient rape victims and their families fought them against all odds, some say graphical description of rapes and paedeophiles will increase crimes and documentary which BBC itself claims norms are flouted, should be banned. But general view is ban or no ban wil not change the ground reality and will not reduce rapes. Women wonder who is insulting India's daughter. They say it is media, politicians and loopholes in judicial system are insulting Indian women. One can forget comments from politicians. Former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi insulted women when he said "Everyone knows what these women do as their husbands remain outside after marriage,"

Former UP CM, SP chief Mulayam Singh insulted women when he said "rape accused should not be hanged. Men make mistakes... Handing death sentence for rape is not fair... boys make mistakes... there will be changes in the law if we come to power . Efforts will be made to change such a law so that those misusing it are punished. Those filing false reports will also be taken to task. When their friendship ends, the girl complains she has been raped." Same is the case with Abu Azmi who said "Rape is punishable by hanging in Islam. But here, nothing happens to women, only to men. Even the woman is guilty. In India, if you have sex with a person with consent, it's fine. But if that same person complains, it's a problem. Nowadays, we see a lot of such cases. Girls complain when someone touches them, and even when someone doesn't touch them. It becomes a problem then, and the man's honour is ruined in this. If rape happens with or without consent, it should be punished as prescribed in Islam.". Former Cong minister Satyadev Katara in Bhopal said "Jab tak mahila tirchi najar se nahi dekhegi, tab tak purush use nahi chedega" (No man will harass a woman till she looks at him in a suggestive manner)," Not only MLAs and MPs even bureaucrats and police force and judges are caught making insensitive remarks. This clearly proves who is insuling India's daughters. But Indian women are fighting all odds and it is true tribute for them on Women's day that Women in Armed Forces, Navy,Army and Air Force showed their strength in Republic Day parade recently which had US President Barak Obama as Chief Guest. Indian women are also now combating naxalites leading from the front. Daughters of India needs no lessons on morality or restrictions imposed on them either from inside and outside the country and they know very well how to look after themselves despite all insults.
