By gone are the comments of Bush Jr. And Hillary, regarding the eating ‘binge’ of the Indians, which is leading to the rise of the prices of the essential commodities in the world. Now, comes the turn of our own home minister, P.Chidambaram, who not to be outpaced by the, Super power’s arrogance, makes the remark that :the (Indian) middle class is ready to pay for the mineral water and ice cream but can’t bear an increase of Rupees 1 in the price of wheat and rice... Thanks to the comments of the home minister, he spared the middle class, from the habit of eating the Indian exchequer; which is left to the task of his ministerial colleagues in the form of multiple multi crore Rupee scams. Let us also thank him; for the favour done by his ministerial colleagues, to the Indian masses who would’ die of bulimia,’ if the cabinet is not busy planning to export, millions of tonnes of wheat abroad, at the price that is lower the one in our domestic market.  But sadly though we may thank Chidambaram, for many a favour, he and his colleagues extended to us; but the data and the information presented by n number of sources, is 'thankless'. Last year in the month of April, our reputable business organization ‘ASSOCHAM’ released a press note to the extant, that the purchasing power of the Indian middle classes, in terms of ‘Entertainment, shopping and eating outside,’ had come down by 65%, compared to the year before. If we deduce the real scenario from this for the present year, the situation may be far worse, in the back drop of our woes in the economic arena. If this is the case with our Indian middle class, imagine the plight of the 77% of the Indian people who survive on Rupees 20 a day (Arjun Sen Gupta Committee.) Let us be thankful to the numbers, they could not be as harsh as our home minister; because they could hit on our belly but not our sensibilities.
