After lots of hassles and barricades Koodankulam plant was started last year. India's atomic power company Nuclear Power Corporation of India has announced earlier that a new unit will be started on 19th of November. Now the dates have been revised as December 25th.

We hear from sources that, the second unit will start its run from end of 2016. The start up for the second unit will happen by first quarter of 2016. According to Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSCO), the first 1,000 MW nuclear power unit at Koodankulam will be restarted in December 2015.

It has to be noted that the unit crossed several dead lines and it was shut down permanently for an annual maintenance. Due to this shut down NPCIL is facing losses of Rs.8 Crores every day.

The NPCIL at an outlay of Rs.17,000 crore is setting up two 1,000 MW Russian reactors at Koodankulam in Nellai district which is about 700Kms from Chennai. The first unit started its process from July 2013 despite it faced lots of protests from social activists.
