Chennai Port is one of the largest ports in South Asia. Lots of cargo are being transferred each day. But each cargo will be allowed after lots of barricades. It is not an easy task to go through all the checks and then get clearance. And to clear all these, the time limit gets more and this causes more trouble.

Now, Chennai port is having some plans to relax the time limit and it allows traders to keep the cargo in its premises till all the decks are cleared. Sources said, this move was made in backdrop of an economic downturn and slowdown in China.

Regarding this Chennai Port Trust Chairman MA Bhaskarachar said, "We came to knew that lots of industries are facing difficulties due to these time constraint and the penalties are also huge for time delay. So we have decided to provide some relaxation after having consultation." It has to be noted that, Chennai Port introduced a penal demurrage system.

Mr.Bhaskarachar added, "The manual process to track down the container has slowed down the vehicular movement. To eliminate this we are planning to implement RFID (Radio frequency identification) based container tracking system."
