People of Chennai see rains far and inbetween and for many decades they faced even acute water problems. Thanks to former AP CM NTR who launched Telugu Ganga project, some of the water problem was solved and later deft administration of Jayalalitha resulted in reduction in water problem.
When Chennai witnessed first downpour two weeks back, many people turned ecstatic. Never did they expect that Rain Gods are out to take revenge on them. Chennai witnessed more than 110 centimeters rainfall, highest in 100 years which left many rivers overflowing and people shelterless with most of the Chennai drowned in rains.
Now many are wondering why Chennai was drowned in rains. Just in two weeks ruling AIADMK and opposition DMK,civic authorities turned helpless.Karunanidhi,chief of DMK already started politics attacking Jayalalitha,CM of the state saying "This government has not put in place adequate measures to prevent flooding during monsoon," He went on to question "After the chief minister's return from Kodanad on November 8, why has she not reviewed rain preparations with the officials?"
Jayalalitha hit back "This unprecedented flooding has taken place since the rains which were to pour over the monsoon months have in fact hit within a few days," Many experts say lack of planning and lackluster attitude,unpreparedness of officials resulted in the city drowning in two weeks.
