Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a swift move air dashed to Chennai which turned into a virtual island due to continuous rains which lashed the city for 20 days. Chennai got drowned completely virtually cut off from rest of the country as all rivers started flowing above the danger level.
Many people were left stranded homeless as even the most interior parts got affected as Chennai witnessed heavy rainfall not seen in 100 years. PM Narendra Modi who held a review meeting along with urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu and defence minister Manohar Parrikar got stock of the ground reality and airdashed to Chennai today afternoon.
Earlier Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha too conducted arial survey to assess the loss caused by the floods. rescue efforts were intensified on war footing with the army, navy, coast guard, NDRF, state DRF and police stepping in.
In the meantime met department predicted heavy rain fall for the next two days in Chennai. Flood situation is worsening turning situation in Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu into extreme danger.
