Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has labelled the floods in Chennai as 'Very Alarming'. Rajnath singh said this during a discussion in Lok Sabha. He also said the concern of members and said an emergency situation has been made across Chennai. 


Rajnath Singh also confirmed that Chennai has received 330mm of rainfall and 269 people have lost their lives due to the persistent rains. Apart from 269 in Tamil Nadu, 2 people have died in Puducherry and 54 in Andhra Pradesh. Home minister also said 12 Navy boats along with 155 personnel were sent to help the persons. 


Apart from this the Tami Nadu Government has asked for 8481 Crores as immediate assistance and centre has provided a sum of Rs.940 Crores. More assistance will be provided from the central government in coming weeks. 


Rajnath Singh said Modi has visited Tamil Nadu and he also has spoken to Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry Chief Ministers. Rajnath Singh also revealed that Andhra Pradesh Government's request for 1000 Crores will be provided soon.
