Floods have caused more devastation in Chennai and Cuddalore districts. For past few days, there were no rains and things turned back to normalcy slowly. With Chennai limping back on its feet, Cuddalore is still struggling to get back as the devastation was huge.
Cuddalore is a common place to fight natural disasters like Tsunami and Cyclone. Every time the city resumes back to normal, some flood or rain spoils the party. In the recently hit floods, the city lost 49 lives and there was huge damage to crops.
Balu and Govindh who are farmers in Periyakattupalayam said, "We are clueless as we don't know how to remove all those sand from our land. But before that the waters should recede completely. The main problem is with handling debts as there will be no income. We are more burdened with loss of cattle."
A report says apart from death of 49 people, there were more than 50,000 huts demolished during the floods. During Tsunami in 2004, 640 people lost their lives and every time a cyclone visits, the town has been affected badly.
