Union Health Minister J.P.Nadda has laid the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Mangalagir in the district in Andhra Pradesh. The whole project is estimated to cost Rs.1618 Crores.


During this event, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu and Union Ministers M.Venkaiah Naidu and P.Ashok Gajapathi Raju were also present. It should be noted that the centre will set up AIIMS in every state. The process started with an aim of establishing new 11 AIIMS.


Nadda said that his process was started to bridge the gap between the required number of beds at hospitals and the actual availability. He added that AIIMS will have 960 beds and the total number of beds from the 17 AIIMS in the country will be 16,300.


He further said the super specialty blocks are being set up in 70 medical colleges and 58 district hospitals are being upgraded to the status of medical colleges. Chandrababu Naidu requested Mr.Nadda to complete the construction in two years instead of three years.
