Chennai Floods has caused more havoc to life as well as property. The entire city is drowned with lots of problems. There has been a huge blow to City's corporation as it is suffering to collect property tax collection. During 2014-15, a record amount of Rs.581.28 Crores was collected as property tax.

The target for this financial year was estimated to be 600 Crores. But so far only 352 crores has been collected as property tax. The target tax is not reached. Property is the major source of the corporation's revenue and any shortfall can affect infrastructure projects.

Regarding this, Corporation department people said that most of the revenue department officials were involved in flood relief work  and this has affected tax collection. Regarding this a senior corporation official said,

"This is a crucial situation. It won't be humanitarian nature to demand taxes right at this juncture. Most officials will be busy with election duty after January which may further affect tax collection. We need to rebuild the city first. Right now all money has been went to salary and pension."
