Facebook rechristened its free internet platform internet.org, which it developed in conjunction with Reliance Communications Network as Free Basics in September. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg while speaking to a leading English daily said, "Free basics should stay to achieve digital equality for India.
In my opinion, it is a bridge between the full Internet and digital equality.. People are not going to deny free basics and that is what thousands of people across India have chosen to tell the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) over the last few weeks.
We Facebook chose a basic current model which gives users a selection of particular amount of sites, This also includes a personal blog and a real estate company homepage. This option may give free access to the open, plural and diverse web."
Right now users who log on to Facebook are welcomed with a message which reads as, "Act Now to Save Free Basics in India. Send a message to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and tell them you support Free Basics in India."
