Ministry of Urban Development is making some plans to make few cities as Smart cities. They have asked the state to submit list of places which have to be changed as Smart City. The first place which will be made as smart city in Tamil Nadu was T.Nagar in Chennai.
Now apart from that, 11 more cities were also included. Ministry already announced the list of 98 cities that are taking part in the first stage of the Smart City Challenge. Tamil Nadu alone took some time as it could not submit the plans by 15th December due to floods and relief measures.
The other places apart from T.Nagar are, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Tiruppur, Salem, Vellore, Coimbatore, Madurai, Erode and Thoothukudi. So far 97 out of 98 cities included in the smart city mission have submitted their plans to the Union ministry of urban development.
The ministry will make an evaluation and then they will reveal the first batch of smart cities. 20 cities will be financed this year and 40 more cities will be taken up in next two years.
