A simple and non-invasive imaging method can effectively replace the current practice in Breast cancer treatment. This reduces the need for invasive tissue sampling. This research work was carried out in London. The results suggest that the method might lead to more optimal treatment of individual patients.

Jens Sorensen who is one of the researchers from Uppsala University said, "This new method might substitute invasive tissue sampling in future. We have measured the growth factor HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2) and this is an important tool for deciding correct treatment in breast cancer.

The only drawback in this treatment is that it is highly expensive. But still it saves lives of many women. The current diagnosis of elevated HER2 expression is based on examination of tissue samples obtained by surgery or needle biopsies from the liver, bones and other organs.

Right now research work is going on with women who suffers from metastatic breast cancer. This therapy is done by means of targeted drug delivery.
