The trend of Padayatras is still continuing in Andhra Pradesh and with each passing day, many more are joining this for their own reasons. This time, it is the turn of the Telugu Rythu, the farmers wing of the Telugu Desam Party and they have organized a special Padayatra.  This was along the Annamayya Project main canal in Chittoor district. The agenda behind this was to demand that repairs should be made for the canal so that irrigation of agricultural lands is possible in the tail-end areas of the canal. It is heard that a total of 24 kms were covered on day 1.  According to sources, the Annamayya project caters to the irrigation needs of nearly 25000 acres. However, the tail end areas have not been able to receive the water because about 16 distributaries have not been repaired since a long time. There are also 6 tank feeders which need repair. Let us see how the government responds to this.
