A petition against Jalikattu will be heard by Supreme court today. Centre lifted ban on Jallikattu sport which was imposed by Supreme court in May 2014. The Animal Welfare Board, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said that this is just cruelty.

Along with these two, 11 more organizations have opposed the lift on ban. Tamil Nadu Government has requested the Supreme court to stay with the decision of lifting the ban. Most of the PETA members said that this lift of ban is just done with political motive.

The sport is so popular in various parts of Tamil Nadu and it will be conducted during Four day Pongal festival. Animal rights organizations say there is clear video evidence of how the animals are assaulted, intoxicated and subjected to other forms of cruelty.

The PETA organizers said that lime juice will be squeezed in the bull's eyes and chilli powder is being rubbed on genitals to make the ferocious. However another side has demanded the continue of sport with certain restrictions to stop the cruelty to animals.
