The state of Telangana seems to start an Animal Welfare Board to ensure that animal cruelty doesn't happen in the state. The chief secretary of the state said in an affidavit filed before the court.

The Chief Secretary said, "We wish to make cruelty towards animals as a criminal offense and we need the nod to implement this. We also seek the same support from centre. We will also take a decision soon on making the existing laws more stringent as the existing ones are failing to act as a deterrent to those who treat animals in a cruel way.

We will soon make some guidelines and this law will be made mandatory for all the persons. The persons who transport animals and sell them for meat will be punished severely." This is indeed a good initiative.

Regarding this an animal activist said, "This is a welcome thing to do. In our neighbouring state, these laws are enforced. Even Government is acting in favour. This Animal Welfare Board is absolutely necessary."
