Supreme Court has asked Government laboratory n Mysore to clarify whether the test reports on Maggi Noodles show lead and monosodium glutamate or MSG within safe limits.


The court also asked food regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India or FSSAI to send more samples of Maggi noodles to the Mysore lab. The samples are being carried out and various other parameters are also being checked apart from lead content. Justice Deepak Mishra said, "We have perused the test reports.


We would like central food technological research institute, Mysore to apprise this court on two aspects, whether the test report relating to lead and glutamic acid are within the permissible parameters and to clarify that those are within parameters prescribed under the Food Safety Act."


It has to be noted that earlier Maggi was banned due to excess lead content. But after lots of tests, it was found that Maggi had no lead and it came back. The sales became high as they had tie up with e-commerce giant Snapdeal. The ban came in to act in June 2015 and the ban was revoked by November.
