In Tamil Nadu, every one is looking forward towards eradication of TASMAC. But at the same time, TASMAC has been the vital source of income for Tamil Nadu Government. Recently the Government produced three days holidays for Pongal festival.

During the festival, it was reported that the sales have been done for Rs.350 Crores. This is something huge. But an interesting fact is, this number is less than last year. In 2015, the TASMAC collections were Rs.360 Crores.

During the last day of Pongal, all shops were closed and Police tightened the screws this year. That has lead to the fall of collections. Tamil Nadu has 6823 TASMAC shops and each year a sum of Rs.26000 Crores is being generated from this.

In Ordinary days, the collection will be from Rs.50 to 60 Crores and during festive days it will waver from Rs.100 to 150 Crores. A TASMAC official said, "The numbers are relatively small compared to last year. We are trying to obey orders as per Tamil Nadu Government."
