Finally people of Chennai can breathe easily as the prices of all necessary commodities went down. Earlier the prices were so high due to the deluge. The city has not completely recovered from the effects of rain. But prices of vegetables went down.


In Koyambedu wholesale market, the prices has went down by 50% in the wholesale markets. At the same time, prices were lashed out by 30% in retail markets too. More than 300 lorry loads of vegetables are pouring into the Koyambedu wholesale market.


Usually the number of lorry loads will be 250. Broad beans which costs Rs.50 had a dip in price and they are now sold at Rs.30 per Kg.  The price of cabbage has dropped from Rs.20 to Rs.10. V.R.SoundaraRajan who is an adviser to the market association in Koyambedu said,


"The price of tomatoes, Cabbage, beans dropped drastically. Green Peas which was sold for Rs.150 per kg has dropped to Rs.70 now. These prices are expected to be stable for another one month.  The decrease in price is due to the increase in production. We have a wide range of vegetables available in the market and in enough quantity."
