Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are going to take place in few months and everyone of them are busy in campaigning and promises. At the same time, there were few surprises as few independent candidates have also popped up. Now one such person has came forward to participate in Ooty.


Dharmalingam Venugopal who was a former IOB economist and director of the Nilgiris Documentation Centre has announced plans to contest as independent candidate from Nilgiris constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections. Venugopal is also the coordinator of 'Save the Nilgiris' campaign.


He will campaign under the 'Vote for Ooty' banner to highlight serious issues faced by locals in the hill station. He said, "Ooty is completely ignored by legislators.


There have been lots of demands. So far none of them was fulfilled. I have planned a complete tour covering all 231 booths in Ooty. I will reach more than two lakh voters and I will make a list of their demands." Venugopal who is 62 years old also runs the Nilgiris Documentation Centre and Nilgiris History Museum.
