Around 10 people were killed and more than 20 were injured as a Bus from Assam fell down a gorge in Meghalaya. The authorities fear the number of deaths may increase as more bodies are yet to be recovered from the bus. It was on the way to Assam's remote district named as Hailakandi.


The death toll includes Women and Children too. An official said, "The accident happened at Tongseng in East Jaintia Hills district, about 150 km east of Shillong. The bus fell down about 100 metres deep.


So far 10 dead bodies were recovered and we fear there might be more such recoveries. The area is remote. The critically injured have been rushed to Silchar Medical College in Assam and the other injured are being treated in the local hospital in Khliehriat." The bus which got into an accident was owned by a company called Capital Travels.


Most of the people who travel from Guwahati to Hailakandi travel through that risky path overnight. The path has been risky and there has been several accidents on that route. More number of people have lost their lives for past twenty years.
