The Kapu `Garjana', demanding the much delayed quota for the Kapu
community in the government jobs and educational institutions of Andhra
Pradesh, has suddenly turned violent with the agitators setting an
entire train on fire and also two police stations at Tuni in East
Godavari district yesterday.
Thousands of
people also laid siege to arterial Chennai-Kolkata national highway as
well as the railway line bringing both road and rail traffic on Sunday
to a grinding halt. The trouble started when a large section of people
attending the Kapu `Garjana' meeting at Tuni went berserk after a call
by the senior Kapu leader and ex minister Mudragada Padmanabham to block
the roads and railway lines.
The sudden turn
of events has also taken the police by surprise. Additional police
forces were being rushed to East Godavari while Chief Minister N
Chandrababu Naidu had convened an emergency meeting with some of his
Cabinet colleagues in Vijayawada.
Describing
this incident as unfortunate, Babu has blamed the Opposition parties for
the violence lamenting how the “peaceful“ East Godavari district is
seeing such violence. Many TDP insiders feel that this is a joint
operation by Congress and Jagan to discredit Babu and start his
downfall!
