Okay fellas, here is a chance for you to adopt and maintain a park around your neighbourhood. Chennai Corporation launched 'Adopt a Park' scheme to allow residents associations and NGOs to maintain parks in the city.
As per Chennai corporation statistical data, the city has 503 parks but still it faces shortage of staffs and funds. This clearly affects maintenance of several of them. The corporation is a lot worried as most of the parks lost the shine.
So under this 'Adopt a Park' scheme interested applicants can build new parks with lots of facilities. The facilities include play area and walking pathway and maintain it for a period of three years. A corporation official said, "This is open to individuals, corporate firms and other organizations.
They can adopt an existing park and maintain it for a year. Contract will be renewed if they do it well. We will issue an adoption certificate for the entire period and their name and logo will be maintained on the location. Advertisements placed inside park should get legal permission."
