Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) basks in glory right now after winning the GHMC polls. Now the heat has began for post of Mayor as there were lots of contenders who were lobbying hard for that post. The main contender seems to be Vijayalakshmi.
She is the TRS Party Secretary general and also daughter of Keshav Rao. The mayor elections is now a matter of question as 'Citizenship' is also brought into this issue. Vijayalakshmi was an American resident till 2004 before she came to India. She was in USA for a span of 26 years. She also got US Green card in the year 1988. She even got married and settled there.
Later she took American citizenship in 1999. She later came back to India and got Indian citizenship in 2009. Now a senior TRS Leader MLC Palla Rajeswar Reddy said, "There may be certain technical issues which need to be addressed in relation to the candidature in the mayor election.
We all hope that the election process will go smooth." As per Section 5 of Citizenship Act 1955, a person who is an Indian citizen and became a foreign citizen, must stay in India at least for five years before applying for the citizenship again.
