Residents of Siliguri has witnessed a rare sight today as a fully grown elephant went rage among the streets. The people were helpless as everyone were just spectators around the scene. The elephant continued to rampage the houses, shops and compounds.
It also took a smash on the vehicles which were parked on road side. Reports said, the adult came out of Baikantapur Forest at 6 am and reached Chainpara which is few kilometers. It also damaged some homes and cars on the way. When the elephant reached City Plaza there was a huge crowd.
It was one of the most famous building and it is located on Sevok Road. The building houses many newspaper offices, showrooms and insurance companies. Forest Department was notified and they came to the spot immediately and they tried to tranquilize it.
Police also came to the spot to control the crowd. They even took some lathi charge and that created panic on the busy Sevok Road. Most of them went to nearby Payal cinema hall. Roads were closed and all vehicles were stationed at once.
