Marissa Mayer who is the chief executive of Yahoo is planning to close Yahoo magazine. The magazine is devoted to topics like food, autos, real estate, travel and technology. This has shocked thousands of writers and editors as they will lose their jobs as part of shutting down the magazine.
The company announced this to cut 15% of its workforce. Some of the topics that the magazines has covered will be folded into Yahoo News. But articles on topics like food and autos, whose publications lost all of their staff, will be republished from other websites.
One of the employee said, "This is like a blood bath. Most of them lost jobs and only a handful of people are staying. They are planning to reinvent Yahoo as premium destination for readers." Recently Marissa made changes to Tumblr and that also caused huge uproar.
She spent millions of dollars to change the complete look over. A Yahoo Spokes woman said, "Joe Zee who is the creative director of Elle and David Pogue who is the best-selling author of personal technology books and a former columnist for The New York Times is joining the team."
