Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha announced various benefits as her rule is nearing completion. One among them was free bus travel for senior citizens. Last week, Jayalalitha announced this scheme at Assembly.
Under section 110, Jayalalitha read the scheme at assembly and she said, "Senior citizens can travel free inside city with their tokens. All the senior citizens who are above 60 years can travel for free of cost. Under this scheme, a senior citizen can travel free up to 10 times per month."
Now the tokens were provided in Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) for free. The scheme came into effect from yesterday. There has been huge queues in various depots and people were so excited about the new offer. An official said that so far 22475 tokens were provided at Vadapalani depo alone.
Despite scorching sun, many old age people were standing in queue. An old woman said, "These free tokens means that I save Rs.150 each month. I am waiting in queue for more than three hours."
