The arch-rivals in Telugu states, the Congress party and TDP have
reportedly joined hands in Telangana for halting the TRS juggernaut in
elections. Taken aback by the successive defeats at the hands of the TRS
in all elections in Telangana, these parties have formed a sort of
unofficial ‘mahakutami’.
This is how they are
now taking on TRS for ensuring the non-split of Opposition votes because
otherwise it has been making the job easier for TRS even as the
Opposition outfits are suffering humiliating defeats to the extent of
losing their deposits.
Now the existence of
Opposition parties before 2019 general elections is being raised.
Congress and TDP have tied up in the ensuing civic body polls for
Khammam municipal corporation and the Atchampet municipality.
Under
this agreement, for the Achampet municipality which has 20 wards, the
Congress is fielding 13 candidates, while the TDP has fielded 4 and BJP
3. Such similar format worked in 2013 Sarpanch elections at Nakrekal in
Nalgonda district and also at Jadcherla in Mahabubnagar district.
Opposition
parties are of the hope that this mahakutami will work out again this
time and check the TRS from sweeping away the municipal elections in
Khammam and Achampet. Sources say that ex Congress MLA from Achampet, Dr
Vamsi Krishna, has taken initiative this time for the entire municipality.
