Customs Authorities have made a sudden check at Airport based on an anonymous tip-off and they arrested a 35 Year old middle aged woman as she was trying to smuggle Rs.2 Crore worth Gold into City from Kuala Lumpur.
The woman who goes by the name Sinduja was arrested and Police said she arrived by early morning and Customs set a trap for her. When checking her baggage, Officials found 65 Gold bars. Sinduja who was arrested has told Police officials that she is from Andhra Pradesh and she was sent to Malaysia on Visitor's Visa.
She was promised Rs.25,000 in order to carry the Gold. She also said a man in Kuala Lumpur has given the gold and also advised her to act normally at the Airport.
In recent times, Chennai Airport is facing more mishaps and authorities have tightened the screws with respect to wake of smuggling from Gulf countries and Malaysia.
There have been numerous arrests based on tips from rival gangs. A customs official said that the competition among rivals is making them to get more anonymous tip-offs.
